The taster class in London will be 2 hours, with an expert tutor guiding you through handbuilding pottery techniques. You can learn to create bespoke mugs and vases, and our tutor is ready to support you in any other project you have in mind.

Material and glazes are provided throughout the course. Clay is charged at £3 per kg.

**What should I bring?

Please bring an apron, a towel, a pen and a notepad. We do have a selection of tools but you may wish to bring your own.

We have 8 wheels available. Please note that students will need to share the wheels if everyone wants to use them.

Learn exciting technique throwing on the potter’s wheel. This 2.5 hour class is ideal for beginners and you will learn how wedge the clay, centre, pull up the walls and shape your piece.

One wheel per student

Small classes (up to 8 students)

Price includes clay, glazing and firing for up to two pieces for you to take home. Additional pieces can be purchased for £5 each.

 Throwing Taster Class

Join us for a fun evening of pottery, free from judgement and suited for all abilities. 

In this 2.5 hour workshop, expert tutors will guide you through the process of creating pottery with two different techniques. You will learn how to centre the clay, pull up the walls and shape your piece on the potter’s wheel, as well as how to create a vessel using only your hands.

 Just bring your fabulous self! Materials and aprons are provided. We do recommend trimming your nails before attending the class.

Queer pottery taster  class

11 week pottery course

#### **Thursday morning (6 weeks) - ALL LEVELS**

This is a 6-week throwing course for those looking to get familiar with the wheel, or develop their throwing skills further.

We will begin by focusing on developing strong key throwing skills: centring, lifting, shaping (cylinders and bowls) and finishing on the wheel. 

You will then learn turning (trimming) a pot - this is the method of finishing and finessing thrown work once leather hard (partly dried) by returning it to the wheel and removing excess clay using a metal tool.  

We will explore surface decoration - carving and slip decoration techniques

And finally how to glaze your pots to achieve the best finish with our wide selection of unique, in-house studio glazes.

**Friday morning (10 weeks) - ALL LEVELS**

This is a 10-week throwing course for those looking to develop their throwing skills further. 

The course will focus on

 - The cycle of clay from start to finish and information about types of clay and firings

\- Developing strong key throwing skills: centring, lifting, shaping and finishing pieces on the wheel.

 - Expand by practising more complex shapes and with bigger weights of clay dependant on each student's ability.

 - Turning (trimming) a pot - finishing and finessing thrown work once leather hard.

 - Pulling handles to give your pots extra functionality and style.

 - Surface decoration - carving and other decoration techniques

 - Glazing pots with our wide selection of unique studio glazes.

**What is provided?**

Materials, glazes and tools are provided throughout the course.\
Each student will have their own wheel to work on for the entire course.\
Clay is charged at £3 per kg (pots are only weighed once finished and ready for firing, clay for throwing practice is unlimited.)

**What should I bring?**

Please bring an apron or an old shirt, a towel, a pen and a notepad.\
We have a wide selection of tools available but you may wish to bring your own if you have them.

Please tie back long hair, be ready to remove rings, bracelets and watches, and cut fingernails short.

**Is this course suitable for beginners?**

Yes, this course caters to all levels.

Experienced pottery students can come to our drop-in session for 3 hours, with the option to extend your studio time on an hourly basis if needed.  Each session includes:

Use of the studio (untutored)

House glazes and stoneware firing included

Clay is £4 per kilo, weighed when added to the bisque shelf

We have a selection of tools that can be borrowed

Top up hours £12/hour

Slots available Monday to Saturday during opening times

Please allow 20 minutes to tidy up at the end of your session

Experienced pottery students can come to our drop-in session for 3 hours, with the option to extend your studio time on an hourly basis if needed.
